BData serves clients who value evidence, want to improve inequities in care, and believe that empowering provider and patient research is the key to unlocking the value of their data.

Every day, we work to make a positive impact on patient care through the organizations we serve. This includes Associations, professional societies, healthcare systems, providers, and patient groups. With the Association as the convening entity, our data collection and analytics platform enables hospitals and physician members to advance best practices with a collaborative, evidence-driven approach.

PARTNER CASE STUDY: AMERICAN BURN ASSOCIATION

REGISTRY PLATFORM ENABLER

Client Situation/Challenge

The ABA is dedicated to improving the lives of everyone affected by burn injury. As such, they understand the importance of high quality, relevant, and timely data to drive the quality of burn care forward. To that end, for more than 20 years the ABA has provided the National Burn Repository (NBR) to the burn care community to improve the quality and cost of burn care. Historically, the NBR was populated by burn centers using disparate registry software and platforms with varying flexibility and data quality controls. The burn center community also lacked a central point of access for members to explore the national registry and their own Burn Center’s data in comparison to national benchmarks. The ABA sought a solution that would drive data consistency and integrity on the front end, while empowering understanding and action through risk-adjusted reporting and visualizations on the back end.

BData Solution

BData developed the Burn Care Quality Platform (BCQP), a web-based system for registry data collection, storage, governance, and reporting. The BCQP data collection system was designed to improve data quality, while offering the flexibility to incorporate data from multiple legacy systems while Burn Centers transition to the new platform.

The BCQP reporting module gives ABA members access to interactive reports through an advanced analytic ecosystem. The web-based system allows members to evaluate their Burn Center’s patient population and risk-adjusted quality performance against the national registry with sophisticated data visualizations, in addition to detailed data exports.

The BCQP has allowed the ABA to improve its annual Burn Injury Summary Report, a comprehensive analysis of burn injuries and treatment based on the national registry. Using the BCQP, the ABA can export analytics and visualizations directly into the report, significantly reducing effort and increasing value of the report.

To support the ABA’s verification committee and program the BCQP includes a module that supports all of the necessary activities and workflows as a center goes through the verification process. The tool brings together the Association verification program and professional standards to ensure high quality patient care.

Impact

BData has given the ABA the centralized data governance and storage system it needed to continue to advance the quality of burn care. It has also given the ABA members unprecedented access to advanced analytics from their desktop, allowing them to better understand and act on the national burn registry data. BData’s process gives all members the ability to access the advanced analytics, even as they maintain or transition from legacy data collection systems. BData continues to innovate alongside the ABA in exploring pathways to further empower the ABA’s research community through its technology and the registry data.

"BData’s team worked in partnership with ABA staff and volunteers to develop a burn care registry platform that is easy to use and generates reports that will ultimately help our members improve the quality of care to patients."
